Ukraine restores poultry supplies to Russia

11.09.2013

Supplies of Ukrainian poultry meat to Russia rose in recent weeks following the resolution of a trade dispute that took place in recent months, Alexander Bakumenko, the chairman of the Union of Poultry Breeders of Ukraine has stated.

“Everything is fine and our exporters currently have no complaints. The pace of exports is comparable to the normal mode of supply,” assured Bakumenko.

Russia had begun to demand special obligations at customs from the Ukrainian poultry exporters. The exporter was required to leave a deposit worth about 80% of the cost of the shipments, otherwise the customers refused to verify the certificate of product quality.

As a result, dozens of trucks with Ukrainian poultry became stuck on the Russian-Ukrainian border, as most importers could not fulfill this obligation.

As a result, the supply of poultry products to Russia - the main export market for Ukraine, during last three months fell sharply. Bakumenko added that currently all issues are resolved so there are no factors hampering exports of poultry to Russia.
