Armenia: Agriculture Minister visits Lori Region

Armenian Agriculture Minister Sergo Karapetyan visited Lori Region to inspect work of a company uniting 60 local farms.

The Minister assured the government will continue assistance programs. He noted that all communities must be united in cooperatives so that the programs could be more targeted and effective.

Minister Karapetyan is pleased with indicators of expected grain crops, despite the fact that the crop area in mostly not irrigated. Despite the obstacles, it was possible to obtain an average yield of 40-45 quintals per 1 hectare.

Minister went to cornfields and inspected the newly acquired farm equipment. The visits were followed by a meeting with the heads of local communities in the administration building of Lori Region. Sergo Karapetyan drew attention to illegal tree cutting and ordered to strengthen the protection of forests.
