Black Sea Market

30.07.2012. Temperatures are rising in Ukraine and in Russia over 30° C in various production areas. Few rains are expected for the next 15 days close to the Black Sea. This is favorable for crops which have not yet been harvested. Nevertheless, later crops such as soybean and sunflower could be at threat due to such weather conditions particularly in the meridional areas.

In Ukraine, low crop condition often lead farmers from Odessa, Kherson, Nikolaev and Zaporizhia to abandon some corn or sunflower fields. These areas were already the most impacted during the cold snap last winter. From a general perspective, 2012 is rather deceiving in terms of agricultural profitability and farm investments could be hampered next year.

In July, Ukraine exported only 950,000 t of grains. The Ministry notified that due to the increase of international prices, importers remain on the sidelines of the market.
