Bulgaria: Increased demand for Bulgarian agricultural products - AgriMin

“With the inspections along the borders and commodity markets, initiated by us several months ago, we managed to increase radically the demand for quality native produce”. This statement was made by agriculture and food minister Prof. Dimitar Grekov during the official celebration of the Food Industry Day. “We are doing this so that only quality products can reach the consumers, products making us famous all over the world will”, emphasized the minister. In his opinion, this will have a positive effect on the Bulgarian agricultural producers and will generate more revenues in the budget as result from reducing the non-regulated import. Minister Grekov added that the inspections were going to continue also in future.

Bromine poisoned tomatoes found in Plovdiv – tons of them already sold in local market

Authorities in Plovdiv found bromine poisoned tomatoes grown in the area of the TPP "North" complex, marica.bg reported.

The samples contained 3 times more than the allowed quantity of the chemical element. The result showed that the amount of bromine ions in the tomatoes is 154 mg / kg instead of below the 50 mg / kg threshold.

Bulgaria: The index of prices of goods and services currently consumed in agriculture, 3d q, 2013

The index of prices of goods and services currently consumed in agriculture in the third quarter of 2013 was 2.5% below the level in the same quarter of previous year and by 1.7% compared to 2012. A decrease was registered compared to the same quarter of 2012 in the prices of: energy, fuels and others - by 3.3%, fertilizers - by 3.4%, veterinary medical products - by 2.5% and animal feeding stuffs - by 7.3%. An increase was registered in the prices of seeds and planting stock - by 3.6%.
