EUR 10M per day for BG farmers from Brussels until New Year

EUR 10 million per day will enter the accounts of Bulgarian in the form of EU subsidies for approved projects under the Programme for Rural Development, Standart daily reports. Otherwise, if Bulgaria fails to pay off the EUR 280 million by 1 January 2014, Brussels will take the money back.

Stock breeder protests in Bulgaria end with promises

After by the 20th of October stock breeders in Bulgaria did not receive the promised 70 percent of national payments in addition to European subsidies, farmers started protests. They briefly blocked the Trakia highway and later tried blocking the Bulgarian-Turkish border at the Kapitan Andreevo border checkpoint, but police prevented it. The latest protest in Sofia was successful and an agreement was signed, not only for receiving the payments but over other demands.

Education in the agricultural sector should be open to innovations and businesses, if it is to be competitive. This statement was made by agriculture and food deputy-minister Valentina Marinova at a meeting with Jean-Claude Bouttier from the Ministry for Agriculture, Food Industry and Forestry of France and Mr. Stephen Robert, French adviser to the Ministry of Agriculture and Food of Bulgaria. Deputy-minister Marinova emphasized that the secondary and higher education were the foundations for the development of the Bulgarian agriculture.
