The recent reconciliation between Turkey and Israel has sparked an era of greater commercial ties between the two former allies, with business leaders meeting to discuss ways to boost their trade ties.

Israeli news portal ynetnews.com reported on Wednesday that business leaders met for the first time since the diplomatic spat between Turkey and Israel to seek ways to improve business relations between the two countries.

Ties between Ankara and Tel Aviv thawed significantly following Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's apology to Turkey for a 2010 raid on an aid flotilla that resulted in the deaths of eight Turks and a Turkish-American.

The report said Zvi Oren, president of the Manufacturers Association of Israel, and President of the Turkish Industrialists and Businessmen's Association (TÜSİAD) Muharrem Yılmaz met in İstanbul earlier this week.

Oren visited İstanbul at the invitation of Yılmaz. "It's amazing to see how relieved they [Israelis] are that they can do business with us again," Oren told Israeli daily Yedioth Ahronoth. "During the visit we discussed ways to strengthen business ties and Israeli tourism to Turkey."

According to the report, the two business leaders decided to set up a joint steering committee, whose members will meet regularly and create a future work plan for both countries on commerce and industry issues. At the first stage, the report says, the committee will focus on cooperation in the fields of agriculture, energy and communications. Oren and Yılmaz "also agreed on sending mutual trade delegations.
