The Solidarity trade union has said it will go ahead with a ‘general strike’ in Silesia, southwest Poland, on 26 March.

The protest is against flexible working agreements and so called ‘junk’ employment contracts, where employees have little employment or social security rights.

Trade unionists from various sectors will down-tools for four hours on 26 March, says president of the Solidarity trade union, Piotr Duda.

"After the strike in Silesia, we will hold a referendum on the adoption of a general strike throughout the country," Duda told Radio Katowice.
