Polish breweries mark boom in beer sales

16.11.2012

Polish breweries have registered a seven percent increase in beer sales for the first half of 2012, as compared with the same period last year.

Some 19 million hectolitres of the amber nectar were shipped out by breweries in the first six months of 2012.

What's more, the Union of Brewing Industry Employer in Poland (ZPPP) believes that 2012 will be a record year, with an estimated 37 million hectolitres sold.

Analysts credit a warm May, followed by Poland's co-hosting of the Euro 2012 football tournament with helping boost this year's figures.

Meanwhile, a new survey by the Monitoring Team of Foreign Agricultural Markets (ZMZRR) has recorded an 8.4 percent increase in beer exports in the first half of the year, with sales amounting to 43 million zloty, as reported in theRzeczpospolitadaily.

Sales of Polish beers abroad are principally maintained by Polish immigrant communities.

Exports of Polish vodkas have also risen by over 8 percent, with sales to the value of 65.8 million euro in the first half of 2012.
