Poultry Production Up 6%

USDA reports January poultry production was 3.85 billion pounds, a 6% year to year increase. 
The preliminary live weight of all poultry was 5.09 billion pounds, 6% above a year ago, with young chicken making up most of the total at 4.35 billion pounds. 
Young chickens weighed an average of 5.92 pounds at slaughter, with mature chickens at 5.39 pounds and turkeys at 31.6 pounds per bird. 
Ante-mortem condemnations were 11.3 million pounds or just over two tenths of a percent of the inspected live weight and post-mortem condemnations were 38.3 million pounds or nearly one percent of total production.
