European Food Safety Authority: No Need To Re-Evaluate Roundup Ready Corn, Cites Flawed Study

The European Food Safety Authority says there is no need to reevaluate the safety of Monsanto's Roundup Ready corn. 
In September a team of researchers from the University of Caen in France published the results of a study they conducted showing rats fed a variety of Roundup Ready corn or exposed to Roundup developed more tumors and other diseases than the control group. 
A number of scientific groups and researchers quickly discredited the study saying the number of rats used was too small and there were other "inadequacies in the design, reporting and analysis of the study". The European Food Safety Authority also questioned the results but did request additional information from the researchers however the Wall Street Journal reports "no such material had reached the Authority before publication of this statement" that there is no need to re-examine previous safety evaluations of the genetically modified corn. 
Earlier this month, the lead researcher on the project, Gilles-Eric Seralini said he stands by the report contending the critics are beholding to the biotech companies like Monsanto while his team has nothing to gain from the study.
