Bulgaria: “Bread price in Bulgaria is dictated by the gray sector” - Source
“Bread price in Bulgaria is dictated by the gray sector,” said Mariana Kukusheva, chairperson of management board of the Federation of Bread Producers and Confectioners in Bulgaria, speaking for the morning programme of Radio FOCUS.“Bread price Bulgaria is utterly low and market impossible for the real economy. Both at the moment and for the future the bread price in Bulgaria is and will be the lowest in Europe,” Kukusheva remarked.
Kukusheva added that the bread producers proposed 10% VAT stake so as to stabilise the price and guarantee a price for the end-consumers. She commented further that the gray sector was a problem of the taxpayers and its “social character” is paid both by the business and the consumers at e very high price. Kukusheva said that the bread is sold to end-consumers with 35% - 40% surplus charge, while at the same time the delivery price was the same as ten years ago – BGN 0.50 – BGN 0.55.
