A plant to process vegetables, fruit and berries will be commissioned in Volkovysk District in November, reported the Economy Department of the Volkovysk District Executive Committee.

The investment project to build the processing plant is carried out by BelOBST Company. Last year the Ukrainian investor put about $870,000 into the project. This year the company is planning to invest about €8 million more.

The new plant will produce frozen fruit and vegetables and also fruit-berry fillings for yoghurts. The initial capacity is 7,000 tonnes per year; the designed capacity is 15,000 tonnes. The plant will be able to satisfy the domestic demand and to export its products to the countries of the Single Economic Space and Baltic states. The investor is interested in further expansion of the production capacity, said the Volkovysk District Executive Committee.

To provide the plant with raw materials, and with a view to reducing the imports, Volkovysk District has already planted the plantations of strawberries, raspberries and cherries. The facility will also process wild berries.

The plant is already under construction. The facility intends to roll out the first products before the end of the year.
