Poland: Polish wheat exports rose in 2014

11.03.2015

The main destinations for Polish wheat were Saudi Arabia and Germany, which received 27.6 percent and 26.5 percent of exports respectively.

The North African region also continued to be a significant destination for cereal exports, as Morocco received 12.8 percent of exported wheat, Algeria 7.6 percent and Egypt 2.7 percent.

According to Eurostat, this would place Poland as the fifth largest EU exporter of wheat to non-EU countries.

However exports of other types of cereals performed worse in 2014 than in the preceding year. Rye exports were down to 826,000 tonnes, compared to 904,000 tonnes in 2013. The majority of rye exports went to Germany, which received no less than 602,000 tonnes.

Maize exports were also down last year, at just 789,000 tonnes compared to over 920,000 tonnes in 2013.

The largest decline was in barley exports, which halved from 293,000 tonnes in 2013 to just 151,000 tonnes last year.
